Just a few hours of your time each month can be life-changing for an abused or neglected child.
As a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, you’ll make a profound impact on the life of a child in foster care who is facing an extremely difficult time in their life. The consistency and stability you provide makes a world of difference.
In fact, children who receive support from CASA volunteers are more likely to have better overall outcomes that will benefit them over their entire lives.
Children with CASA volunteers benefit in the following ways:
- More likely to find a safe, permanent home.
- Half as likely to reenter foster care.
- Spend 8 months less in foster care, on average.
- Do better in school and report significantly higher levels of hope.
Why Now?
The child welfare system is in crisis, impacted by substance abuse, mental health challenges, domestic violence, and other factors that leave parents unable to provide adequate care. While agencies work to keep families together whenever possible, some children must enter foster care for their safety. Consider these facts:
- There were 3,044 substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect in Nevada.*
- Children spend an average of 14 months in foster care in Clark County.*
- Nevada mandates CASA volunteers for these children, yet it remains one of only six states that receives no state funding to meet this mandate.**
CASA volunteers help bridge this critical gap - ensuring no child is left without a voice.
Anyone over 21 can become a CASA volunteer! If you care about children and/or want to significantly impact the lives of abused or neglected children, then we'd love to hear from you. Volunteers must meet additional requirements, including a background check.
