Michael Samuel, Director
Mike was an only child raised by a hardworking mother. His maternal aunt lived close by with her eight children and they were his “brothers and sisters!” Mike was anxious to serve his Country and enlisted in the Air Force after graduating high school. He retired after serving twenty-eight meritorious years in the medical field. His family has always been important to Mike, and he felt that he was extremely fortunate.
He wanted to give back to the Las Vegas community and while on active duty, he became aware of the Clark County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program. Mike completed 33 hours of training and was sworn in as a CASA volunteer in 2001. After retiring from the Air Force, Mike enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and received double bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Human Services Counseling. His degrees fit in perfectly with the CASA program and Mike’s interests in law and psychology, with a special emphasis on children and families. Mike served as a CASA volunteer until 2006 when he joined the CASA staff as a Volunteer Coordinator. Mike served in that position until his retirement from Clark County in August 2020.
Mike treats others as family and always lifted CASA volunteers’ spirits when they walked into his office, not only by providing guidance, but also water, candy, and hugs, not exactly in that order! He continues to serve as a CASA Volunteer Peer Coordinator for fifteen outstanding CASA volunteers.
